For general information about how the Web can be made more accessible to disabled people, you can visit the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) website: Web Content Accessibility guidelines
There is also further general information about the guidelines and tests for ensuring that websites are accessible to all, at the Bobby website: About Bobby | Top of this page |
| Surfing the Web |

The website of the Royal National Institute of the Blind contains a lot of information and help for blind and partially sighted people who want to surf the web. It contains details about (and links for downloading) specialist web browsers and speech output for 'reading' web pages. It also gives information about how to navigate web pages without using a mouse. Go to the RNIB website at: Surfing the Web with the RNIB | If you are using Windows XP, a voice package (Narrator) is available by going to 'Start', 'Programs', 'Accessories', 'Accessibility'. Windows 98 offers some help with accessibility (but not the Narrator package) by going through the same steps outlined above. The Microsoft website also contains a list of Windows-based screen readers. Go to: Microsoft website | Top of this page |
